Most Wanted SOB

NY NEWS -- A former Hospital technician, Peter Belegrinos, is most wanted by the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in Astoria Park, Queens, New York, NY. On August 9, 2005, Belegrinos was arrested and charged with sexual abuse, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, attempted kidnapping and various other criminal charges at his arraignment at Kew Gardens Criminal Court. Furthermore, despite a request from the prosecution that Belegrinos be held without bail, the accused molester was released on a $50,000 bond. Unfortunately, the presiding judge set the bail based on consideration of the statutory elements of the case. Belegrinos then failed to attend his grand jury indictment on January 23, 2006, which led to the issue of a warrant for his arrest.

Follow up:

According to witnesses, and the prosecution, at approximately 3:00 p.m. on August 9, 2005, while three children played in Astoria Park, Peter Belegrinos, watched them from his Lincoln Town Car for awhile. Eventually, Belegrinos approached the children and attempted to lure them into a "kissing game." When the children refused and ran from him, Belegrinos chased the children to a wooded area in the park. Belegrinos then allegedly pulled one 9-year-old girl away from her 12-year-old sister further dragging her into the woods. Belegrinos is believed to have both sexually and physically assaulted the child while the 12-year-old watched in terror. Additionally, Belegrinos is alleged to have brutally ripped the girl's clothing off as well as punched her in the face when she attempted to scream.

Meantime, both the other two terrified children continued to scream throughout the attack, drawing the attention of adults outside the wooded area who called 911. Belegrinos finally fled the crime scene leaving his car behind. When Police arrived, Belegrinos was identified as the suspected attacker through his physical description and abandoned black Lincoln Town Car. Furthermore, Police arrested Peter Belegrinos on the same day of the attack for the alleged sex crimes.

At present, Peter Belegrinos is believed to have fled the United States and has a pending Interpol Red Notice posted to seek his provisional arrest and extradition.

Finally, for the purposes of stimulating communication on this Blog, I will end this posting with several questions. First, what ethnicity is the name "Belegrinos?" Second, the accused suspect, Peter Belegrinos, had no known prior arrests, so what would drive a law-abiding citizen to attack children? In this case the attacker attempted to methodically lure children into playing a "game," do you speculate the attacker could have perpetrated this type of crime before? Finally, since there where numerous calls to 911, why didn't witnesses also respond physically to stop the child's attack?
